Free GEO Audit

Enter a URL and get an instant AI-readiness check: can ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot crawl it, read it and quote it? You get a score, an A–F grade and a fix list ordered by impact.

What the free GEO Audit checks

Every check is deterministic — we fetch the page, its robots.txt, llms.txt and sitemap, and apply fixed rules. No AI guessing, so the same page always gets the same result.

Crawl access

HTTP status and redirects; robots.txt rules for OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, GPTBot, Google-Extended, Googlebot and Bingbot on this exact path; noindex / nosnippet in meta robots and the X-Robots-Tag header.

Machine readability

Word count of the server-rendered HTML (to catch JavaScript-only pages), title and meta description length, a single H1, canonical URL, the html lang attribute and well-formed hreflang.

Structured data

Whether JSON-LD is present and parses, which schema.org types are detected (Organization, Product, Article, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList…), and whether your Organization links official profiles via sameAs.

AI & discovery files

Whether /llms.txt exists and is a real text file, and whether an XML sitemap is reachable and declared in robots.txt.

Answer-readiness

Question-style H2/H3 headings, lists and tables that AI engines can quote, and complete Open Graph tags.

How the score works

Each check passes, warns or fails and carries a weight — blocking crawlers or shipping an empty server-rendered page weighs more than a missing Open Graph image. A pass earns full weight, a warning half, a failure nothing; the score is the weighted pass rate from 0 to 100.

Grades: A is 90+, B 80–89, C 70–79, D 60–69, F below 60. The fix list puts high-weight failures first so you know what to do next.

Free GEO Audit — FAQ

What is a GEO audit?+

A GEO (generative engine optimization) audit checks whether AI answer engines can crawl, read and quote a page. This free version fetches your URL and runs 20 deterministic checks across crawl access, machine readability, structured data, AI discovery files and answer-ready formatting.

Which AI engines does this relate to?+

The checks map to the crawlers behind ChatGPT (OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, GPTBot), Gemini (Google-Extended), Google AI Overviews and AI Mode (Googlebot) and Microsoft Copilot (Bingbot). The audit checks readiness; it does not query the engines themselves.

Does a high score mean AI engines will cite my page?+

No. A high score means nothing technical is stopping engines from using the page. Whether they actually mention or cite you depends on your content and competitors — that is what AI visibility tracking measures.

How is this different from the GEO Audit in GEOly?+

This tool checks one URL against 20 signals. The GEO Audit inside GEOly runs 29 checks across your site and pairs the results with Share of Model tracking in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot.

Do I need an llms.txt file?+

It is optional. llms.txt is a proposed convention rather than an official standard, so a missing file is reported as a warning with low weight, never as a failure.

Is the GEO Audit free?+

Yes — free, no signup required. To keep it fair, each visitor can run up to 20 audits per hour.
