What Is Open Graph?
The Open Graph protocol, originally created by Facebook, allows you to control how your web pages appear when shared on social media platforms. OG tags define the title, description, image, and other metadata.
Without OG tags, social platforms will try to guess your content — often with poor results. Adding proper OG tags ensures your shared links look professional and engaging.
OG Tag Best Practices
- ✓Image Size: Use images at 1200x630 pixels for optimal display across all platforms. This is the recommended size by Facebook and works well on Twitter and LinkedIn.
- ✓Title & Description: Keep OG titles under 60 characters and descriptions under 155 characters to avoid truncation on most platforms.
- ✓Twitter Cards: Always include Twitter Card tags alongside OG tags. Twitter will fall back to OG tags, but dedicated Twitter tags give you more control.
